Ray Bradbury passed away yesterday. He was one of my all time favorite authors. I spent countless hours as a teen sitting on my family’s back porch on hot summer afternoons reading collections of his short fiction. Those summer memories are indelibly interwoven with this stories, a lens through which I view that time.
He was one of my biggest inspirations as a storyteller. He was a bold and brave artist. I know I borrow a bit of his perspective in my own work, how everyday life is a miracle and magical.
I’m saddened at his passing and feel a sense of regret. For the past few years I’ve been meaning to write and thank him for the inspiration he wrote into my life. But I never did.
So instead I’m going to re-read some stories of him. If you haven’t read him, I highly recommend picking up a collection of short stories.
